Imaginative & Pretend Play Equipment
Imaginative play equipment gives children a setting and a prop, then gets out of the way. A tractor, a trail bus, a locomotive, a playhouse, a store front, a steering wheel, a periscope, or a themed panel is enough to start a game that can run for an entire recess.
BDI Play Designs supplies themed and pretend-play equipment as freestanding pieces and as features built into a larger structure: vehicle and train play, playhouses and cozy cubbies, café and market panels, animal and creature climbers, telephones and talk tubes, sand and digger play, and role-play panels at both deck and ground level.
This is the most social category on a playground. Pretend play is where children negotiate roles, take turns, and include each other, so it does work that climbing and sliding do not — which is why school playgrounds and childcare centres almost always want some of it.
Most imaginative-play items sit at ground level and need very little clear space, so they are among the easiest additions to an existing playground. Built to CAN/CSA-Z614 and ASTM F1487, made in Alberta, and shipped across Canada and the United States.
