The Duet puts a marimba and a metallophone in one instrument, so players get warm, earthy fiberglass notes on one side and bright, ringing aluminum notes on the other. With 18 notes and four mallets, several people can play together.
The two halves are tuned to A minor and C major pentatonic, which keeps group play sounding musical. It is part of the Starter Ensemble, and Freenotes offers its Harmony Method lessons for school use.
